£185

UNUSUAL AGATE SHOE FLASK, c,.1840 £185
I have seen over the years a number of Solid Agate carpet balls being listed as 18th Century, although have always had a problem with this date ( inc.Whieldon coll.529 & a jack found in the foundations of Hollingwood Farm house in Staffordshire 0 To me they date from 100 years later, the same period as the introduction of Scottish Spongeware and similarly decorated balls. This Flask obviously mid 19th century is made up from the same agate clays, and has additional painted black decoration is signed with the initials MT.
Height 5 1/2 inches 14 cm. Length18.5 cm.
Condition good minor ware only.
