The Wife and Child of Osceola, the last of the Seminole Indian Chiefs.. pub. 1848 |
£45 |
One of the most important prints published by The Illustrated London News, was in 1848, that of The Wife and Child of Osceola, the last of the Seminole Indian Chiefs.......
When William Ryan the historical writer was finishing his latest book, "Osceola: His Capture and Seminole Legends," when he purchased a similar copy of the print and solved the mystery of the English painting titled "Pocahontas and her son" held at the Lynn Museum in Kings Lynn and previously thought to have been off Pocahontas and her son Thomas Rolf. Having been presented to the museum by a member of the Rolfe family in 1990. It now would appear that the Original Painting was possibly commissioned by the American Col.John H.Sherburne of Pe-o-ka (little owl) and her son and presented it to Queen Ann when he came to London. Although more research is being undertaken |
