When I was in my natural place I was a lump of clay; And duged was out of the earth and brought from thence away; So now a jug I am become by pottery art and skill; And now your servant I'm become and cary milk I will..
No Handicraft can with our art compare; We make our pots of what we potters are; By each demise some lesson will might learn ; that clay we are and unto clay return.
Probably North Devon although the shape is uncommon to the area so possibly Somerset.
Who was Eliza Fisher and why she was given a milk jug we may never know. |
