  LARGE STAFFORDSHIRE LION c.1810. £1250
This large Staffoprdshire Lion holding the world in its paw is derived from a pair of marble statues now located at the base of the steps of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. Produced in porcelain from the 1750s it is thought the pottery vertions are based more directly on a terracotta figure made for Heaton Hall Manchester, by John Bacon at eleanore Coades factory.
Produced in overglaze colours on a pearlware body the lion measures 22cm high, the base being26 x 12 cm.
An almost identical figure with similar marbled base is illustrated in Pat Harfpenny English Earthenware figures 1740-1840 p.g183.
Condition, brocken off at base and retored through legs etc. tail in four pieces. Tounge original.
