A rare Blue printed plate from a service lamenting the death of George III. c.1820.
A child is receiving a bible from the King with the motto "I hope the time will come when every poor child in my dominions will be able to read the bible"
This relates to education system was brought to England from Midas India in 1789 by Dr. Andrew Bell, an Anglican minister and adopted by the Church. Joseph Lancaster, a Quaker, learned the method from Bell and by 1805 was conducting his own school in London using this system, by 1807, having one thousand students enrolled under his and the monitors’ direction in forty-five schools, he was in prison for debt. In 1810 a committee was formed with Fox & Brougham that gained the Royal patronage , the saying reportedly by the king on meeting Lancaster.
