£SOLD

SARAH WHEELER 1847 THAME Oxfordshire. £SOLD
A lovely mid 19th century band sampler by Sarah Wheeler dated 1847 Thame.
One of seven children of William & Sarah Wheeler, the grocers of the village in Oxfordshire most would seem to have worked with there parents from a young age. Sarah died in 1866 age only 28 but is now remembered some 150 years later by her school needlework.
This sampler has a wonderful grace and warmth worked with the alphabet in both upper and lower case letters with simple border patterns between the lines, that include an unusual garland pattern. Framed in what appears to be its original black moulded frame measuring 25.5 x 49 cm.
Condition good.
