RARE SCOTTISH POTTERY BUST of BURNS

£145

RARE SCOTTISH POTTERY BUST of BURNS £145
This unusual, probably hand made stoneware bust of Robert Burnslooks to date from the 19th century and has a blue-tinged pearlware type glaze. As you can see, it has suffered numerous areas of glaze loss and chipping to exposed edges, and someone thought it was a good idea to start to repair these with what looks like Araldite or something similar. They got no further than putting the araldite on, and thankfully they left some parts untreated. It would all be removeable with a bit of patience but it would take time and probably result in some more glaze loss, but once done you'd have an unusual item the likes of which I've not seen before.
The Buff stoneware body is somewhat like yellow ware I presume Scottish
Height 26.5 cm, Quite heavy for its size
